SFSD Episode 2 - Voice Mail: The Sentinal of Liberty vs. The Dark Knight [1:00m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (2051)We are releasing this week’s episode early. We recorded our episode late on March 31st. We received news today, April 1st, 2007 that Joe Murphy, our friend, fellow podcaster and ‘brother’ in the FarPoint Media family, has fought his battle with leiomyosarcoma carcinoma to its finish. After this episode we are going to be joining many members of our extended family and honoring Joe’s memory with a week of silence. Don’t worry, buddy, it’s a week without show notes.
We kick everything off, Jim, with a voicemail, Jim, from Indiana Jim who apparently, Jim, thinks he’s funny, Jim…
Leftovers from Episode 1:
Email from PostNuclear10: Whopper(War Games) vs Colossus(Colossus: The Forbin Project)
We expand on Supercomputer Smackdowns and if you are good at math we give out our ages too.
Voicemail #1 from Super Scotty from Canada: K.I.T.T. vs Viper
Tony proves that he can use wikipedia to look up stuff. Scotty might incur the wrath of Miss ‘The Merciless’ if he’s not careful.
Voicemail #2 from Super Scotty from Canada: Uhura’s fandance vs Slave Girl Leia
Trampas invokes ‘Naked Time’.
Mudwrestling in a Desert Landscape = good for your skin.
Voicemail from Chris Taylor: We were wrong, but with the same outcome. Also read Chris’ analysis of ‘Light lag‘ over at the FarPoint forums.
Christiana and Tony geek-out on physics while Trampas daydreams of fan-dancing Uhura.
Voicemail from Kevin Bachelder of The Scapecast, The Signal, and Firefly Talk Podcasts: Invites us to Dragon*Con!
Trampas has his excuse, Christiana invades Japan that weekend and Tony is non-commital. We invite Kevin to the show to make him pick a side.
On to Episode 2:
Email #1 from Rick Jones: No, he’s not the comic book sidekick, but he is one of the “sidekicks” over at The Ninth, a Heroes Podcast. Rick has some Captain America vs. Batman analysis.
Tony gets geeky in defending Batman against Bane.
Email #2 from Rick Jones: Transformers - Size doesn’t matter. Cap from the 70’s DID have super-powers. DC is to Marvel as Batman is to Moon Knight.
We geek on Marvel’s attempts toward having a Batman of their own.
Then we get off-subject and chat about Iron-man
Voice Mail from The Computer King: Steel your hearts Geek-girls. CK is chatting us up with his thoughts on Captain America vs. Batman.
Is Cap’s shield magnetic? After a bit of discussion, we do answer the question.
Forum Post from Kendermage: The winners are different than any of us expected.
Voice Mail from Valharic: Everyone is a comedian. Super-Strength is a weakness?
Valharic loses his job over at the Dragonlance Canticle.
Tony reads a prophecy from a great poet.
Did Batman train as a magician?

DL
While the X-men team is:

Congratulations to Scott Sigler. Ancestor reached #1 on the Science Fiction and Fantasy listing at Amazon and #7 on Amazon’s ranking overall. Add to this that Mr. Chicken-Scissors was both #1 and #2 in Horror with Earthcore riding the massive wave that is Ancestor. This is an incredible achievement, well done, Scott!

Tribute Song: Mason Rocket (Spy Extraordinaire) - Beatnik Turtle
We love you and miss you Joe. Say ‘hi’ to Cap for us. You ARE Mason Rocket!
Thanks to Cheyenne Wright for this amazing tribute.
On a personal note, I was continually amazed and impressed with Joe’s thorough show notes for every show he was involved with. When I began to type up show notes, I always used what he did on Wingin’ It as a model for how they should be done. Even something as silly and irreverent as the Wingin’ It Voice mail show received as much time and attention as anything else Joe did. It’s something small, but I know it’s going to be a long time before I write show notes with a dry eye. - Tony Mast
